Hey so I’m over on Mastodon now
Since Musk took over Twitter, I’ve had a couple of blog posts explaining that Twitter just…feels different now and not in a good way. It’s not the only website that I sense has grown far beyond what it should be. I’ve blogged in the past how different Facebook feels now compared to when it first got off the ground. Instagram is the same way…in part because of Facebook, but Twitter has always been one of my favorite sites.
I’ve ranted many times to Joslyn that once-upon-a-time, Twitter was a really cool place where you could easily communicate with other nerds. It was community online that I didn’t have offline. Overtime, it grew into this place where it was very political and I quite frankly didn’t want to engage with it anymore. Then Musk bought it for the lulz and it’s quite frankly gotten worse. The ads are even more obnoxious, the “For You” page implementation is the antithesis of what Twitter should be. I just don’t feel good about it anymore.
So I started up on Mastodon. While the initial experience feels a little clunky (as did Twitter all those years ago), the experience so far feels more like what Twitter once was. I found a general tech instance to join which seems like a good starting spot and started following a few people. I even posted a couple of times which has become very rare for me on other platforms.
